How To Make Cinnamon French Toast

cinnamon french toast

We have already discussed "" (the basic version) in my other article on this site.

Making a cinnamon based french toast is a continuation of the basic recipe. On this page, I describe how to make the cinnamon french toast from scratch, it's actually pretty easy!

A lot of people think that you either put the cinnamon powder into your french toast mix or sprinkle it on top of the basic french toast. Well, you can do both if you like. I persnally like the way the sprinkled cinnamon powder decorates the slices, making it more desirable. This is in particular a great to make as a kids lunch snack.

Okay, let's get started. To make a cinnamon french toast you will need the following ingredients ready:

  • 3 large eggs.
  • 3/4 cup of milk (or 180 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar (you can use brown sugar)
  • 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon

One of the keys to making a perfect french toast is to preheat the pan before putting your toasts on it.

Preheat your frying pan on low heat settings, with a piece of butter. Go easy on the temperature, you want to melt the butter, not burn it into the pan. You will increase the temperature later when your slices are ready. While the butter on the pan is melting, proceed to the next step.

You want to mix your eggs (including the yolks) with milk, sugar and cinnamon. Use a basic plastic container or a deep soup plate. Mix the yolks into the milk until they are completely mixed in together in a light yellow concoction.

Take one slice of square bread (such as the wonder bread) and cut it into two triangular wedges. Dip it into the egg, sugar and milk mixture you created a minute ago. Make sure to dip each slice separately.

If you are using a different type of bread (non-square) simply dip it into the mixture. If the container in which your egg, milk and cinnamon mixture was made is too small, there is nothing wrong with cutting the bread into smaller pieces. Make sure you dip one slice or piece of bread into the egg mixture one at a time.

Keep the slice in the mixture for a few seconds, so that it soaks up the egg like a sponge. Then place it on the pan to cook.

Cook on one side until it turns golden brown. Turn it over, and do the same thing on the other side. Once both sides are cooked through, take the slice off the pan and put it on a plate. Repeat the process until you have a plateful of french toasts.

Optionally, put syrup or sprinkle sugar powder on top of your completed french toast.

Cinnamon French Toast Cooking Tips

  • Ensure that your pan is coated with butter prior to placing the egged bread on it.

  • In combination with butter, bread is sensitive to heat and will burn fast unattended. To prevent the toasts from burning, make sure to keep an eye on it every 20 seconds as it fries on the pan. Don't use a flame or temperature that are too hot. Setting 3-4 on most stove tops will do the trick.

  • To make it crispy, let it cook on the pan for a longer period of time. It sort of takes some experience to determine the optimal crispiness you are looking for. Just keep making morefrench toasts ☺

  • Use a spatula to turn over your toast on the pan.

  • Use a fork or a whisk to mix the eggs with milk and sugar.

  • If you are making French toast for two people, use 4 eggs and 4 slices. Make two toasts for each.

  • Take your cinnamon french toast even further by adding nutmeg powder.

  • Try serving it with slices of melons, strawberries or other fruits such as banana, pear, orange, grapefruit, be creative!

  • Cinnamon french toast is a great lunch snack idea for kids.
